Chapter 9: Gold digger

I chuckled at his words as I made to stand up only to be pressed down by him again, "Be still for a moment" He requested huskily as he grabbed the one black bag.

To my stun he pulled out a mini package box, containing a bottle of perfume.

I guess I didn't check well.

Pulling out the bottle of perfume he applied some of it on my dress.

"This is too much, I already wore perfume " I blurted.

I noticed the perfume had a scent similar to the one he wore.

Finally he let me stand up, after a moment of admiring the girl in the mirror I took my clutch purse and we headed out.

It occurred to me I still don't know how he knew my address.

"Owen..." I called softly as we entered the elevator.

He hummed a response, glancing at me.

"How did you find me?" I looked into him in askance.

"IP address and phone number" He briefed, indifferently.

Oh right how could I forget, the man's a CEO of AF-WW tech company he would know how to track down someone, using their electronics.

I shook myself awkwardly, here I was thinking I was someone special.

I hooked my arm around his bicep as we exited the elevator.

I didn't know while but I felt the building was dead quiet.

I was living off campus in a student area, this apartment building was occupied with some students such as myself, they was always noise in the building, if it wasn't someone throwing a mad party it would be some people or couple fighting, in conclusion there was a lot of drama going on not just in this building but this student area.

Tonight it was oddly quiet.

Reaching the main entrance my jaw dropped instantly, A train of luxury cars were lined up on the road, standing by each car was a good number of hefty men and women in cooperate suits.

"Mr Wells, it has been confirmed, Senator Lilith will be attending " A lady spoke as she approached with a tablet in hand.

He hummed a response and he slide his arm around my waist, leading us to a car in the middle.

After we got into the car the lady came, seating at the front seat with the driver.

"And my uncle?" I held him ask.

"He's on the list however there's no possiblity" She answered.

Afterwards silence ensued and I couldn't be bothered to speak since there was another ear in the car.

Before the car started moving I caught a glimpse of people staring out through their windows keenly.

Ok... So he was the one who stole their attention.

"Sir..."

"Rumors has it that he was the one who killed the madam mayor, should I look in it?"

As she said that I slight frown settled on his face.

"No" he responded

I yawned, bored of their conversation as I gazed out through the window.

The silence in the car was deafening but thank goodness that after an hour drive, the car drove into a gated mansion.

The driver and the lady were the first to come down, out of duty the driver opened the door for Owen.

I trailed after him .

Shortly after leaving the car the driver went back in and drove away.

The lady I assume is his secretary took another root, leaving us.

"Be careful not to leave my side" he murmured near my ear, passing a mini card to security men standing guard at the entrance.

I nodded in understanding.

Moving into the mansion, we walked down a hall with antique paintings hanging freely on the war.

This paintings were worth more than I can estimate, it made me wonder who could be that person to possibly have millions hanging on the walls of their foyer.

Rich people can be odd at times, while some guided their wealth with their lives, some others treated money like it was water.

What if thieves or robbers broke?

Passing the foyer Owen lead us into another hallway.

"What's the occasion" I finally asked, glancing at him.

"My father's about to die" He dropped casually as we took another turn.

I stared at him in stupor.

Finally reaching a hall I froze at sight of people.

" Welcome Sir " said the host, standing at the entrance.

In that moment, all head turned to us, some murmuring amongst themselves as they stared.

A man approached wearing a smile.

"A pleasure to see you Owen"

Without responding Owen brushed pass the man with his arm still around my waist.

He lead us to an empty table however I was the only one who sat.

"Is everything alright?" I asked, noticing his poker expression.

"Of course" he replied calmly.

Only a short while later a couple approached from a distance.

"I guess I won the bet" Said the man to the woman to which she chuckled.

"Is that so?" Owen raised a brow in question.

A moment of silence and they hugged.

"Though father was the highest bidder" the man responded subtly.

The scene unfolding before my eyes was peculiar, I didn't know what was going on or what type of conversation they were having, I just stared.

"And who's this young lady" Said the woman standing beside the man as she stared at me.

I don't know why but her face somehow familiar, like I have since her somewhere.

"This is Felicia Conklin" Owen introduced me.

"Felicia ? Oh my goodness Felicia! Weren't you my nephew's fiancee or something?" She mentioned, her expression concentrated as she tried to recall something.

While she spoke my eyes darkened as I recalled she was Christina, the young aunt of my ex boyfriend.

We only crossed parts once however I had a bad first impression of her.

Owen turned to me, staring meaningfully.

The truth was that I was a con artist who dated for money, obviously I won't tell him that.

Watching the couple leave I finally turned to him, saying " my last relationship didn't end well "

"Tell me more" He said, taking a seat across me.

"I can't" I replied.

Shortly after a server brought a two glasses of champagne, placing it on the table.

"He calls you a gold digger" He uttered, taking a sip from his glass as I stared in bafflement.
