Once the wedding ceremony was over, they were driven to Daniel's luxury penthouse in upstate Seoul.
The ride to their new home was as quiet as a graveyard. So Hee refused to look at Daniel and Daniel didn't care either way. He was scrolling through his phone like nothing had happened.
McClaren arrived at the penthouse and So Hee bounded out before the guard would help her.
“So Hee!” Daniel called after her but she ignored him.
She couldn't risk staying in another space with him, not when her mind was filled with images of his hands and lips around her body. She kept reminding herself that he was her enemy but her body wasn't cooperating.
As soon as she reached the living room, she grabbed a pillow.
“We’ll set up some ground rules, pal, so listen up : We’ll stay in separate rooms.”
Daniel shrugged. “Already prepared. Your Hell Kingdom is upstairs to the right.”
She scoffed. “No touching.”
“Guaranteed.” He nodded.
She was stunned. Had he not kissed her without question a few hours ago?
“I have to pick Amy up from my mom's and I haven't got all day. What other rules do you have?” Daniel snorted.
So Hee scoffed and threw a hair over her bare shoulder and smiled. “There will be no interference in each other's lives and no falling in love, obviously.”
Daniel slumped on the couch, his phone still in hand. “Relax, smarty pants. This whole charade will be over in a year.”
So Hee smirked. “And I can't wait.”
“You make it sound like you can't stand being in the same room with me.” Daniel murmured.
So Hee couldn't help but scoff. “Um… Hello. Have you met me? I hate you for a living.”
“And you're a millionaire. See? Having anything to do with me makes you wealthy. Good thing I'm a money magnet.”
“Money magnet? More like a trouble magnet. Has no one told you you're ranking first at top ten nightmares?”
“Aww. Is she trying to be mean to me?” Daniel pouts.
“Yes!” She bit out.
“Sorry to burst your sarcastic bubble, sweetheart but it’s not working. It's like watching a little bird chirp at a Dragon. Totally ridiculous.”
So Hee's face turned red. She had never felt so murderous. “You better sleep with one eye open, Daniel Kim.”
“Watch your back, Han So Hee,” he rose to his feet. “Eat my snacks and I'll poison you.”
“Not before I poison you first, dipshit.” She punched her gown and stormed upstairs.
“Watch your step, princess. The floor was poisoned too.” He called out
“Shut up, you moron!”
So Hee arrived at a bedroom door that said ‘Hell's Princess’ and she clicked her tongue in annoyance. “That idiot.”
She pushed the door in and entered. “Wow. Not bad.”
The room was perfectly polished. From the fireplace to the bedroom to the draperies to the furniture, everything was from a luxury brand and the air was heavy with the scent of roses. She had never been impressed by whatever Daniel Kim does but tonight, she was. For starters, he didn't have his maids dress the room like a cave.
She slumped on the bed and heaved a sigh. “Ah. Rest. Finally.”
There was a quiet knock on the door.
She lifted her head and frowned. “I am armed and dangerous. Fuck around and find out how.”
A low, quiet voice called out instead. “Ma'am, it's Angela. Mr. Kim told me to help you out of your wedding dress. He said to tell you and I quote, “Angela will help you out of your misery”.”
So Hee heaved another sigh. “Fine. Come in.”
With Angela's help, So Hee changed into a robe.
When that was over, she slumped on her bed and FaceTimed Trixie.
“You married Daniel Kim?” Trixie said the moment she answered.
“Under emotional blackmail, yes.” So He replied dryly as she stared at her best friend eating popcorn like she was watching a drama.
“This is incredible. Now, we won't get worried about proximity anymore. Good job, So Hee.” Trixie smiled.
So Hee rolled her eyes. “It'll be over in one year.”
Trixie froze. “One year? That's pretty soon.”
“I know, right?” So Hee smiled. “One year after this, I'll be back to my old life.”
“Well, don't try to kill each other before the one year is over.”
“No promises.”
After the call, So Hee decided to take a look around. If she was going to live here for the next 12 months, she might as well get acquainted with the place.
The penthouse was like something out of a magazine — polished marble floors, ivory and wood scattered across the house in furniture and articles. The 4 bedroom penthouse had an in-house pool and a private bar.
So Hee sat in the bar house and reached for a bottle of wine. She peered at the bottle, then she poured into a glass and dropped a few contents on the potted plants by the door. When she saw it wasn't poisoned, she drained the entire glass and poured more.
She drank, replied congratulatory messages from friends and clients, drank again and began to rant to herself.
“Thank… you sooo much, Mr. Heinrich,” her words came out slowly and slurred.
“Enjoy the rest of your evening with your husband,” he replied.
“Will do.”
The line went dead and she turned her phone facedown on the counter with a loud THWACK!
“Enjoy the rest of your evening with your husband?” She hiccuped. “Oh please, I don't have a husband! Stupid… stupid Daniel Kim and his perfect smug face.”
She took another sip of wine and scoffed. “Who even… kisses like that anyways? He probably practices a lot with mirrors.”
She drinks a bit too much and rants a bit too loud to herself. By the time she was done the bottle was emptied.
“Huh?” She turned the bottle upside down and frowned. “It's finished? Ah.. Shibal.”
Her words echoed back to her and she froze. The house was too quiet.
“Wait a minute…” she looked around. “Don't tell me Daniel locked me up in here.”
“Daniel!” She echoed but got no reply. So Hee ran her hand through her hair. “Ah! That bastard. He better not have locked me up in here!”
She slipped one foot into her slipper forgetting the other as she marched her way upstairs. She didn't know where she was going but she knew she had to find Daniel. The house was a 4 bedroom so the second room upstairs would be his.
Her eyes landed on a door that said ‘Beware of Dogs’ and she smirked. “Bingo.”
So Hee opened the door. “Where the hell have you been?”
… and Daniel walked out of the en suite shirtless, his towel hanging low on his hips, water dripping down his abs.
So Hee froze. “What the —?”
Daniel sees her and smirks. “Ah. Breaking the rules already? Don't worry, I get it. I'm too hot to resist.”
“In your dreams, Kim.” She scoffed.
He took a step closer, one hand on his hip. “Yet you're here… enjoying the view of Daniel Kim's naked chest show.”
So Hee fumbled. “I … I got lost!”
“In my own bedroom? You clearly saw the sign outside, right? Beware of dogs.”
“I'm not a dog, you bastard!” She hissed.
“You'll watch your tone around me, Princess. I'm not a temperate man.” Daniel bit out.
“I won't watch my tone around you!” So Hee drummed her fists against his chest.
He caught her hand. “Don't test my patience, So Hee.”
“Or else what!” So Hee attempted to leave but he grabbed the back of her throat and slammed her against the wall.
“You’re a handful, So Hee.”
So Hee shoved his hand away, panting. “Sure am.”
“But whose last name are you answering?” He asked.
When So Hee didn't answer, he pressed his hand to her shoulder. “Whose last name are you answering?”
“Yours.” So Hee managed a whisper.
“Whose ring are you wearing?”
“Y - yours.” She hiccuped.
“Who is your husband?”
“You.” It came out as a breathless sigh as he pulled her against him.
“Don’t you forget that.” he leaned in and ran his tongue along her jaw. His grip around her tightened and a painful moan escaped her lips.
“Daniel, stop!” So Hee said with protests that sounded more like sighs.
“Did you like it when I touch you like this? Hmm?” Daniel whispers along the crook of her neck.
“Daniel, stop it.”
Only he didn't and she was glad he didn't stop. All she wanted was him. His scent, his hands around her, inside her, quenching the fire aching between her legs.
He was her sworn enemy but at the moment, she didn't care.
“I thought you wanted me to stop,” Daniel murmured behind her ear.
“Don't! Stop!” She warned.
“Don’t and stop or don't stop? Which is it?” He chuckled, pulling away to look at her.
“Don't… stop.” So Hee grabbed his face and smacked her lips against his.
It was a battle.
A battle she was desperately losing. Citrus, shampoo, and every sinful scent on earth exploded on her tongue as she tasted him, as she kissed him. Her fingers move on their own, running their hands through his silky hair and veined neck. Her heart pounded violently in her chest from fear that let her go and tell her to never come near him but that beat all her expectations.
Because for the first time since their wedding, Daniel kissed me back.
