When I finally saw this person, the first thing that I noticed was how tall he looked. He had a fine face with dark wavy short hair. He was wearing expensive clothes, which were more sparkly than his white teeth.
He had this brightest smile just like Mrs. White and Olivia but his smile made me feel assured that everything is going to be just fine. His touch on my shoulder made me feel protected from someone that I could trust. His presence seemed to be someone from a well-off family but he seemed different.
“Hello, I am Krishna, your classmate. I was trying to greet you from the second you walked into the room. I am the class president. I like to know everyone personally so that if they have any issues, I can help solve them” He said these lines as if he were reading poetry.
I did not find him attractive but his tall body and his being too friendly just threw me off.
“Yeah. Everyone seemed to be friendly and tried to help me a lot. Can’t really complain. I shyly responded.
“Great. In a couple of days, we are going on a class trip. We sent out a survey to everyone’s email. If you fill it out and send it to me. That would be great,” he said.
“Sure, why not?” I said it sarcastically as I was thinking about how my first day was going. Loneliness and sadness filled my words.
“If you need anything. Don’t hesitate to ask me personally. Because everyone comes to me with an issue. I can solve it for you.” At this moment, he brushed my hair off my right ear as he was in a standing position the whole time. It seemed as if he was flirting with me. I did not understand his gestures. He seemed like a nice person at the same time he seemed to be pretentious. All this time, I was just curious about this tall guy and the strange feeling that he made me feel.
After he left. I finished my lunch and went back to my class 10 minutes before the next period started.
I finally felt fine after having lunch. I still feel anxious about this first day.
Olivia entered the classroom with her friends Rachel and Ben. Rachel is a medium-height girl who has a bright smile. She has tattoos around her arms and neck. Ben seems to be a normal guy in everyone’s group. He seems the goofy one who makes the jokes and gets no credit. All three of them approached me.
I suddenly felt like I was going to have a panic attack because I am not good with people, especially a group of people.
“Hey, Radha. Meet my friends. Rachel and Ben. They have been wanting to meet you ever since you walked through the hallway of people. You seem to get many people’s attention,” Olivia said.
“From what people?” I asked.
“In the morning people saw you open the door and they got curious about your clothing choices and your long hair. Even Krishna was asking about you. If he notices you the whole school notices. Anyway, meet my friend.” She changed the topic and I lost the chance to ask the class president Krishna anything to do with me. After all, I just joined this school.
“Hello! Rachel and Ben. It’s nice to meet you. I am-” before I explain Rachel said that she knows that I am new to this school.
Our class started and the day seemed to go by quickly with these new friends that I had made. In between classes we talked about ourselves. They told me about their rich family. Olivia will get a house of her own when she turns 18 and she said she is going to move in with her friend whom she had a crush on for five years now. She is going to tell him soon.
I felt fine with them. I am not sure if they are my friends but they seem nice. I am still hesitant to open up about my life.
The rest of the day went fine. On my way back home, on the train, I was wondering why the class president would be interested in me.
Is it because of my chubby cheeks or my long hair? I have always been complimented about my long hair. But it was mostly girls. I can’t forget how he made me feel safe with the words that he used. In a way, he seemed to be flirting. In class, he didn’t even look at me a single time.
After our small conversation, I was kind of thinking about him. After I reached my home, my grandma asked about my day.
My day was fine so I did not lie to her.
“At first, it was hard to adjust but afterward, I made a couple of friends.”
“That is good, my child.”
I went to sleep a little early that night. The next morning I had to meet up with my therapist for the first time.
My mom felt that I went through some trauma and I need to talk it through with a specialist.
I have an appointment at eight so I got permission to be late for school. I hope I will not open up too much tomorrow because…
