My gaze lingers for a moment longer than necessary on the phone. I can't help but frown.

The situation does nothing but get worse, as it progresses, causing me to feel a strong sense of anxiety.

I'm not the most reasonable person when I'm anxious. I tend to act on impulse, and right now that wouldn't do us any good, so I try to control myself.
