Behind closed doors
Mia.
I woke up late today.
Due to the workload I brought home from work, I stayed up all night trying to sort through the flowers from the office. I overslept and now I am panicking as I was already 30 minutes late and I just got up from bed.
Quickly scrambling to the bathroom, I turned on my shower and took a quick bath before rummaging through my wardrobe. Picking out the first thing I touched, I quickly shrugged it on. It was a white, short and professional gown and I put on a suit jacket.
Pairing it with black pumps, I grabbed to trap the files off my counter top and rushed outside to the Uber waiting for me.
All through the drive to the office, I was sorting through the files nervously. The Uber dropped me and I rushed to the elevator, making my way to the top floor of The Travis Company where I worked as a secretary.
My phone rang as I got into the elevator. Disoriented and panicking, I searched through my bag to get my phone which resulted in the files spilling on the floor of the elevator.
I cursed slightly under my breath, my phone forgotten as I bent down to gather the files. They were for a contract and although I had already gone through them, I still needed my boss's approval before conclusion.
That reminds me. My boss.
He would have called me already and unfortunately for me, I wouldn't be behind the desk. I just hope I don't get fired due to this mess.
The elevator door swung open before I could finish gathering the files. I didn't even look up to check who entered until a pair of shiny shoes stopped in front of me. The owner of the pair of shoes bent down and began helping me gather the files.
Finally, we were done and we both got up together. I used the chance to look up and I was shocked at what I saw.
Demand in front of me was literally a Greek god with black wavy hair, cropped by the sides, on top of his head. He had the most intense green eyes I had ever seen. It was so mesmerizing that I didn't notice he was handing the files over to me until my eyes made their way down to his mouth, where a smirk was forming.
Blushing I collected the files from him and tipped my head down so my long blond hair was covering my face. Although I wasn't too embarrassed to the point of forgetting my manners so I whispered a small, “Thank you so much.”
“It was a pleasure, milady.” My heart skipped a beat when I heard his voice. It was the kind of voice they would use in a commercial just to get women to buy their products.
With my head down, I subtly raised my eyes to check him out. He was in a black tailored Italian suit. Whoever he is, he is loaded.
Mia, you have bigger things to worry about. Like the fact that you are late.
I berated myself just as the elevator opened up on my floor. Smiling timidly at the handsome man beside me in the elevator, I nodded once before stepping out.
Imagine my surprise when he stepped out together with me. I was the only one working on this floor, which was the CEO floor.
What was more surprising was the fact that he was actually working towards the office of the CEO. I quickly rushed out from behind my desk where I was arranging the files I brought.
“Sorry sir, you can't go in there,” I quickly told him. The encounter in the elevator was embarrassing enough for me but it seemed this one took the cake.
“Why?” He asked, tilting his head to the side. I observed him for a few minutes, wondering if he was just being sarcastic or he really didn't know.
I mean it was all over the news that the CEO of Travel Company had gone for a retreat and although most people did not know the inner workings of the company, I have been the one running the company for 6 months now.
Taking a deep breath, I came back to the moment and addressed the man in front of me, “I'm sorry sir but the CEO is not around. If you have an appointment or you need to talk to him, my desk is over there. I'd be the one to attend to you for the time being. I'm so sorry for the inconvenience but please, you would have to bear with us.”
I was a little bit nervous as I spoke. Normally, I would be professional but that moment in the elevator seemed like a deal breaker in this case.
Crossing his arms slightly over his chest, he looked at me with an expression I can only liken to amusement. Well I'm glad one of us finds this situation funny.
Because I don't. I need to check my email for any important messages or updates from my boss. That is something I do first thing in the morning and now, due to my tardiness and this impromptu visit from ‘Mr Greek God’, I haven't had a chance to open it at all today. There might be important messages that would need my immediate response and I hate to be lagging behind.
“All right sir. If you will, please come to my desk.” I gestured with my hand to my desk and fortunately, he promptly followed my instructions.
I immediately sat in my chair and booted my computer, planning on replying to my emails while talking with him.
“Forgive me if I'm intruding, princess. But can I get your name?” The question asked made my eyes shoot up from my computer. I'm sure I looked like a deer in the headlights, because that question definitely caught me off guard.
“Uhmmm…” I was nervous as I tried to reply to him. This had never happened before and I pray this would not be the end of me
