Beg Me Alpha; You Rejected Me
THOSE sinister smiles flashed across his face for the hundredth time, making Xaniyah pull up a disgust face for the hundredth time too, she was so getting fed up with those disgusting smiles of Josh, her seemingly crush. He had been smiling and flashing his thirty two at Xaniyah for the past one hour since the tutorials for the day began, jeez! He was really getting on her nerves.
She looked away and tried to focus on the voice of the teacher who stood at the front of the class backing the white board, and talking through his nose. It didn't work. His voice at that moment felt like an addition to her frustrations that mid afternoon.
She sighed deeply and placed her both elbows on her desk, resting her face on her palms, but she could still feel the weight of those sinister smiles all over her. Josh was sitting next to her on the left, but was on the other row.
Soon the dismissal bell rang and immediately, there was little rattling here and there as the students obeyed the bell.
Zipping and unzipping of backpacks, locking and unlocking of lockers, packing up of backpacks, packing up of books etc.
“We call it a day for today students,” the teacher said, “thank you,” and he walked out of the class.
Xaniyah looked around and found the class almost deserted, then she began packing up her few things that were on the desk.
“Hey, can I help?” A voice asked and she frowned, knowing whom it was. It was Josh, as usual.
She kept him mute and ignored him, doing her thing. After a few minutes of the silent treatment, he sat on her desk.
“Hey I'm talking to you,” he said.
The frowns on her face deepened as she slowly looked up at him.
“Can you please, leave me the hell alone Josh?” She finally let out her frustrations.
Josh simpered and scoffed.
“Why should I?” He shrugged his shoulders.
She sighed and rolled her eyes, picking up her backpack, she got up and began walking away.
“Suit yourself then,” she said as she walked out.
“Really?” He got up from the desk and went after her. They were now outside the classroom and walking through the hallway.
“Seriously, I still do not understand why you have hardened your heart so much that you just can't see the love I have for you Xani,” he said to her as they walked side by side.
She scoffed and made a face. She was walking so fast that he walked in large strides as well just to meet up with her pace.
“Xaniyah?” He called.
“What is it?” She blurted out, her voice a pitch higher as she stopped in her tracks.
He flinched.
“Ohhhh!” He exclaimed, widening his eyes, “okay slow down,” he said.
“I have told you a thousand times Josh, that I am just not interested,” she said.
“For how many months now Xani? For how many months?” He asked.
Xaniyah sighed deeply.
“I am sorry Josh, I am still not interested, how again do you want me to say it for you to understand?”
“There is never a way I am going to understand, never,” he said.
“Gosh!” She exclaimed and continued walking, he followed her.
“Come on Xaniyah, please listen to me, I —.”
“Xaniyah!” A voice shouted from behind rudely cutting Josh short.
They subconsciously snapped their heads to the back, the direction of the voice, to see Thalia, Xaniyah's closest friend running to meet up with them.
“Ughhhh!” Xaniyah heard Josh growled lowly and she chuckled, seeing this as a relieve to her. Josh was a shy human being and always avoided girls, hence, his reason for growling. He was already seeing an abrupt end to his conversation with Xaniyah.
“Hi girlie, you just left without hollering at me,” Thalia said, as she was now walking in large strides to get to them.
Xaniyah sighed. It was a sigh of relief.
“Skipped my mind,” she said, “thinking a whole lot,” she added.
Thalia smiled.
“I see,” and she turned to Josh who was already looking uncomfortable and uneasy.
“Hi Josh,” she waved at him.
Josh nodded, a weak smile on his face.
“Mm. Hi,” and he turned to Xaniyah, “catch you later Xani,” and with that, he sprinted off.
The two girls glanced at each other and burst into laughter, then Thalia put her right arm across Xaniyah's shoulder and they continued walking.
“Don't tell me this high school crush of yours isn't tired yet?” Thalia asked.
Xaniyah shrugged her shoulders.
“Well, as you can see for yourself. I guess he isn't,” she said.
“Hmm. He is really serious. Right from high school, that guy has been crushing on you, trying to make you his. And now, we are preparing for college, he still hasn't backed off. How awesome!” She burst into laughter and Xaniyah scoffed.
“Well I do not care,” she said.
Thalia removed her arm from Xaniyah's shoulder and looked at her friend.
“Really?” She asked.
“Yeah. Anything?”
“Come on, aren't you reading any meaning to it? All the way from high school, now at tutorials preparing for college, he just keeps showing up. He really loves you and that is why he doesn't want to back off, come on,” she squeaked.
“Oh my!” Xaniyah exclaimed.
“Alright, fine. Why don't you love him back? At least he is good looking, can take care of some of your needs, so why? What is the problem?”
Xaniyah chuckled.
“I don't love him neither do I hate him. I'm just neutral about him. I am just not ready for relationship now, I want to focus on myself, go to college, get a job, have a stable income, get a life, before thinking of the opposite gender,” she explained.
Thalia rolled her eyes.
“Oh! I see. So, are you coming over to my place today? Dudu and Funfun are already missing you, you know?”
She sighed.
“I wish I could. Mum and Dad are still yet to be back, so I have got to be home, always,” she said.
“Alright then, I get it,” they finally got outside the building and began heading towards the big school gate.
“Would you love to join me? Mum would be coming to pick me up,” Thalia giggled.
Xaniyah stopped in her tracks.
“I'm so sorry dearest friend, I wish I could again, but I have got no time. I would be taking the public transport,” she said.
Thalia's face went down casted, she was crestfallen.
“Are you avoiding me Xaniyah?” She asked, with that puppy face of hers.
“Oh come on,” Xaniyah said and wrapped her arms around her in a hug, “why would you say that? I'm not,” she said.
Thalia hugged her back.
“Are you sure?” She asked.
“I am. Do not worry, I will plan my weekend and come over, okay?”
Thalia nodded.
“Okay,” and they disengaged from the hug.
“I will whatsapp you once I get home,” Xaniyah said and Thalia nodded.
“Alright, take care then.”
Waving goodbyes at each other, they went their separate ways, with Xaniyah heading for the road to flag down a bus, and Thalia heading for the garage to wait for her mum.
