Contract Marriage to Mr. CEO
Fiona Lancaster stood before the grand entrance of the luxurious mansion, her heart pounding in her chest. The sun cast a golden glow over the sprawling gardens, but Fiona's mind was far from the beauty surrounding her. She has seen it so many times to admire it.
Inside the mansion, her grandfather, Charles Lancaster, lay on his deathbed. His health had been deteriorating for months, and now his time was running out. She has been told that he wanted to see her, she had hope this won’t be their last meeting
She was greeted by the somber faces of the family lawyer and her grandfather's trusted advisor, Mr. Thompson. They led her to the bedroom, where her grandfather awaited her. His once vibrant eyes were now clouded with age, but they still held a spark of determination.
"Fiona," her grandfather rasped, his voice weak but filled with urgency. "I don't have much time left. There is something I need you to do for me, I know it’s not going to be an easy decision ."
Fiona nodded, her heart heavy with anticipation. She had always been close to her grandfather, since he is the only family she has left and she would do anything to honor his final wishes.
"I want you to marry Jason Sinclair," her grandfather said, his voice barely a whisper.
“As we know, Jason is from a reputable family. And you know that I want the best and nothing but the best for you”. He continues.
Fiona's eyes widened in shock. Jason Sinclair was a prominent businessman, known for his cold demeanor and ruthless tactics. He was not a man Fiona ever imagined herself marrying.
"But Grandfather, I hardly know him," Fiona protested, her voice trembling. "Why would you ask this of me?"
Her grandfather's eyes softened, and he reached out to grasp her hand. "Fiona, I have my reasons. Jason comes from a respected family, and his business empire is one that will complement our own. This union will secure the future of the Lancaster legacy."
Fiona felt a lump forming in her throat. She had always prided herself on her independence and her ability to make her own choices. The idea of being forced into a marriage for the sake of business was suffocating and draining.
"But what about love, Grandfather?" How do I marry a man that I am not emotionally attached to?”she whispered, her voice filled with longing.
Her grandfather sighed, his frail body sinking deeper into the pillows. "Love is a luxury we cannot afford, Fiona. This is a marriage of convenience, a union that will ensure the prosperity of our family. I know it is not what you dreamed of, but it is what must be done."
Fiona's heart ached with a mix of sadness and resignation. She had always believed in finding love, in a marriage built on affection and companionship. But how does she make her grandfather understand that her emotions mean so much to her and cannot jeopardize that for anything.
Fiona’s voice trembling, “ why should I marry him because of his wealth and fame? I do not agree with that since we are also wealthy and famous ourselves. This is totally unfair. I’ve always wanted a fairy tale marriage not some forced union that I might have to deal with all my life” she rants
“I love you so much grandpa, you know I’ll always want to make you happy but this time I’m sorry I cannot do this because I do not see myself spending my entire life with a man that I do not love.” She said
“Fiona I am not asking but telling you to marry Jason and it’s a must for you to marry him.” He insisted.
“There’s a lot to benefit from this union for us. I need to be sure you’re okay and comfortable while I’m gone. I’m not sure of how much time I’ve got left”. He sadly said
Fiona is confused and sad as she does not understand what to do and what emotion to portray to her grandfather, since she’s trying so hard to keep a straight face so he does not go sad.
“Grandpa, I really want to do this for you but I do not know if I can. I do not need his wealth and fame, I’ve got everything I want and even more”.
Fiona looked at her grandfather with tears pouring down her cheeks, Unsure of what to do.
She does not want to let her grandfather down at the same time she has her own emotions to consider.
“I am all he has left, what if I fall in love with him and he does not feel the same way towards me”, what if it’s the other way round? It’s grandpa’s last wish. I do not want to let grandpa down, I want him to stay happy for the rest of his life”. She tearfully thought to herself
"I will do as you ask, Grandfather," Fiona said, her voice steady despite the turmoil within her. "I will marry Jason Sinclair."
Her grandfather's eyes filled with gratitude, and he squeezed her hand weakly. "Thank you, Fiona. You are a strong and capable woman. I know you will make the best of this situation."
As Fiona left her grandfather's side, her mind was filled with a whirlwind of emotions. She couldn't help but wonder what awaited her in this unexpected union. Would she find happiness and fulfillment, or would she forever be trapped in a loveless marriage?
