SCORNED HEIRESS REVENGE
BLAIR'S POV
“So this is how it all ends,” I murmured, feeling the cold hands of death closing in, choking me.
I was powerless to it. I was about to die, and I could not do anything about it. I had trusted the wrong people, and now I was going to pay the price for it.
“You were always gullible, Blair. You have always been so naive and trusting. I should thank you; your trust made our plan work perfectly well. I mean, I doubted us, thinking you’ll figure it out, I mean, how could you not? We were right in front of you.” She giggled, running her hands over my husband’s chest.
My best friend and my husband.
“How - how could you do this? How could you do this to me? I loved you.” I whimpered, pain growing in me, spreading all through my chest, down to my stomach.
I did not know what hurt more - the physical pain or the betrayal.
“Oh, God, shut up, Blair. Shut the hell up.” Ivan groaned, sounding bored.
Ivan was my husband; he was the love of my life, and now, he twisted the knife in my back. A sob tore out of me, and Mira laughed.
“All you were, Blair, was a means to an end. I have always hated your guts. You disgust me. I only married you because I wanted your father’s company. It is straightforward, a means to an end. Well, it was supposed to be, but you have ruined it all by falling pregnant. I thought you were smarter than that!” He snarled at me, rage coating his words.
I flinched helplessly.
Tonight was supposed to be the happiest day of my life. I was finally pregnant after almost four years of infertility. It had been a source of great sadness for me for the past four years, but now, I finally had what I always wanted, or so I thought.
I had called my husband to tell him the great news, and he was excited. Foolishly, I had imagined the rest of our lives together. I had not thought too much when he told me he had invited Mira. Mira was my best friend, and she was a renowned and successful Chef. Ivan and Mira were important to me, but it was stupid of me to think I was important to them, too.
Ivan and Mira had always been close. She had been the one who introduced me to Ivan almost a decade ago. Mira and I had been friends longer. We grew up together. I trusted her with my life, and that was my mistake, a mistake that would cost me dearly.
I had been surprised when Ivan and Mira arrived together about an hour ago, but I did not think too much about it. I should have. I should have also listened to my gut when I realized something was wrong.
"Congratulations, Blair, I'm finally going to be a godmother!" Mira had gushed in happiness, hugging me, playing the part of the dutiful best friend.
My happiness knew no bounds, but there were signs, but I was seeing through Rose colored glasses. I had thought the red flags were roses.
“Are you not eating?” I had asked when she dished out only food.
“This is a congratulatory meal for my Godson, so I would like him to take the first bite.” She had smiled at me, and foolishly, I stayed under her spell.
It had hit me moments later, halfway through the food. The pain started slowly. A burning sensation in my stomach and my throat. I could not understand it. Then, the dizziness and vertigo followed.
"What is happening to me?" I cried out as a tingling sensation spread through my body.
As I fell to the ground, I saw their smiling faces.
“Oh, sweet, Blair, do you not understand?” Ivan laughed, mocking.
“I do not want you or your baby. I made sure you would not be pregnant, because I already have a child with Mira, the woman I love. You and your child will be an obstacle in our way, hence the poison.”
Poison?
Slowly, it dawned on me. I had been betrayed, and now, I was about to die. Details flashed through my mind in my final moments, of Mira being a single mother. She refused to tell me who the father of her child was, only for me to discover that it was my husband.
I had trusted Mira, I had loved her. Pain bloomed in my chest, and I lay on the ground, feeling my life fade away.
Was this all my life had come to? This was not a life lived. I could not go like this.
“Goodbye, bestie.” Mira mocked and laughed as she kicked my stomach.
Pain jolted up my spine, overwhelming me, and soon, my vision blurred. I was not sure if it was the tears or just the cold hands of death. I had been a fool, I had abandoned my family, and handed my father’s company to a traitor.
I deserved to die, but . .
I needed a second chance. Just one more chance. I would not make the same mistakes again.
__
BEEP. BEEP. BEEP.
I woke up to a vaguely familiar sound. My mind was a mess.
I opened my eyes to a blinding light, and I saw my mother’s face.
“Oh my God! She is awake. Get the Doctor! Doctor!” She screamed, fear and hope clinging to her words.
My mind was still a mess, even as a man in a White Coat walked in and started to examine me. The last thing I remembered was dying. Was this the underworld?
“Congratulations, ma. She pulled through, just like I knew she would. She is stable, and her vitals are normal. We need to keep her here for observations, but soon, she will go home.” He said, and I exhaled slowly.
“Oh, thank you so much, Dr.” Mom smiled.
I could not take the confusion anymore, so I sat up, head pounding. I glanced around and froze when I caught a glimpse of the calendar. It was dated May 2022. 2022?
“My sweetheart, you fainted two days ago, two days.” She exclaimed, but I was still caught up in my shock.
Two days ago? Which meant today was the third of May. My heart raced as I considered the possibility that I had been given another chance. A second chance to make everything better. I had prayed and God had listened.
“Are you listening to me, Blair? Do I need to get the doctor?” Mom frowned, and I shook my head. “I’m fine, Mom. I’m sorry, I’m just a bit confused and tired.” To say the least.
“I keep telling your father to kick back on the workload, but he never listens. Now, look where we are.” She snapped, frustrated, and I smiled, “I’m fine, Mom, I promise, I’m fine.”
“Good. We were worried we would have to cancel the engagement party. Ivan and Mira have been working so hard to perfect it.” She smiled at me.
The names slammed against my chest like a boulder, threatening to open a can of worms and emotions I was trying to suppress.
“Engagement party? They are getting engaged?” I asked, heart racing, wondering if I had stepped into an alternate reality.
“Yours, baby. You and Ivan’s engagement party.” She frowned, then asked, “Are you sure you are okay?”
I could understand why my mother was shocked. I had been so excited about my engagement party in my past life.
It was symbolic that I was taken back three years, to this moment, because this was when I started making so many mistakes. I was going to correct my mistakes.
The engagement party would be the beginning of my revenge.
Ivan and Mira would not know what hit them.
