Introduction
They said Zara Blackwood vanished without a trace. The perfect daughter of the perfect family—gone, like a ghost swallowed by the night. Years later, Ember knows the truth: the Blackwoods don’t want their Zara back. They want a replacement. And for the right price, Ember will become her. Overnight, she’s thrust into the glittering nightmare of the Blackwood Estate—a mansion of chandeliers and locked doors, where every smile hides a blade. There’s Damien Blackwood, magnetic and ruthless, who sees her as both prize and possession. And there’s Eli—warm, dangerous, and far too perceptive—the one man who could unravel her lies with a single look. But playing Zara comes with rules: never slip, never question, and never, ever dig into the past. Because the deeper Ember ventures, the more she realizes Zara’s disappearance wasn’t an accident… and some secrets are worth killing for. Now the masquerade is collapsing. Love has become a weapon. And the truth, if it comes out, could destroy the Blackwoods—along with the imposter they invited in. In the world of the Blackwoods, the most dangerous thing isn't being a liar. It's being the one who knows the truth.

Chapter One

The black SUV followed closely as I hastened my step, fumbling my hands into my cheap coat where my stolen money had been stored away. And the car had been in my trail from the first time I jumped from my one night stand. I had robbed him of his money and I needed to get out before he woke.

I stepped into a pond as I tried to side track my way round the route to lose the car. I was scared out of my wits since I was the only one on the road by this hour except for the drunk men in the side of London sideways.

And just when I was when I thought I had lost the car only to see it parked right in front of me. I drew back immediately before I splinted into a run with my hand gripping hold of my money tightly but I didn't make it that far before I felt strong grips pinning me down tightly.

“Let go of me!! I yelled, kicking and fighting my way as the two bulky guys carried me to the car and shut the door after they had tossed me inside.

And just when I had recovered my composure I found myself staring at an average old man definitely in his fifties.

“What the hell do you want from me?!! I screamed, moving to attack him.

“I don't think that's a nice Idea, do you think so Ember? " he spoke with a nice and stern tone gluing me back to my seat.

“How in the hell did you know my name? I felt a rush of fear as my eyes met his gold stare through the reviews mirror. The smug of his lips seems a complete threat to my life.

" I know more than your name Ember, I know about your parents, life in the street as both a hooker and a thief. I know more than you can ever guess… “ I felt my heart stop as I followed his stare to the front of the windscreen only to find that we're in front of my tiny apartment.

" How the hell?!! I felt my throat dry as I met his hard glare again. “What did you want?" I mutter this time not bringing myself to shout.

“Let's say, I need your help with something" He smiled but it didn't seem settling. Instead it made me more unnerved as I clinged back to the seat.

“Let’s get straight to the point then, her name is Zara Blackwood, the only heir to the Blackwood but she went missing 5 Years ago at the age of sixteen…” He paused looking at me through the reviews mirror again.

"And how did that have to do with me, Zara Blackwood. I don't know who the hell she is or why she went missing” I felt irritation building up within me.

“Of course not, you don't have anything to worry about her disappearance. The old woman is dying…”He paused again and continued as if deliberately how to deliver whichever message he has. " Her grandmother is dying and she's the only surviving Blackwood and if she dies without meeting her granddaughter she would sign all her inheritance to the orphanage…”

Bless her soul" I muttered emotionlessly. “Then why the hell are you following me in the middle of the street by 5am in the damn morning" I was pissed looking at the well dressed old man that seems to have his skin properly soaked in milk every morning.

“I want you to act as Ember till the inheritance is signed and till the grandmother dies. We need the money" he spoke and in the middle of the cold morning all I could do was burst out laughing..

“Go to hell!" That was my only response because no one would sound more crazy than him sitting on that wheel with two men at the car entrance as if I would run out any second which I wouldn't hesitate to do.

“30 Million USD for your service and you'll have to keep it a secret till your service has ended" My mouth fell open just at the first sentence, who the hell has that kind of money.

“How much inheritance are we talking about?" I asked, terrified from the amount I just heard but I watched his brows arch with the kind of sternness that would frighten a child.

“That’s none of your business to ask, you'll only do what is instructed of you” He finished while I tried to put what he had said in perfect understanding.

I was going to act as a certain lady because of an inheritance and until the inheritance is signed I have to be under a certain act but the money was enough to help me start a new life away from this life draining city.

“What about my own life, I don't know this lady nor have I met her, how am I? I was supposed to act as someone I've never come across and what about my friends? What if I am found out and all these secrets are brought out in the open what happened then?!!

“That’s not for you to worry about, just play your part, Ember and get you payment”

“And what if this is all a lie to get me into a crime that I'm not ready to take part of" And without a word I watched him pull out an envelope and shove it back to me.

“This is half percent of the deal I've made to you” I was too scared to touch the envelope or look away from him.

"And what if I disagree?" I dare ask the question that wasn't making any sense to me.

“Then you continue living in the dirt hole like you've been, sleeping and scavenging your way through the street. You decide, you're already living on a crime” I swallowed as the harsh life of a twenty one year old girl was spilled in the open.

What if I say yes?!
