Introduction
Evan was the school's bad boy while in high school and Tricia could care less. she only wished that he would cease to exist so she would no longer be bullied so life could get a little more easier. thinking she is free from her bullies, after high school, she does not expect to meet him again four years later. things are much more... different now, not normal. ** "one more look at him again and i swear i would break his jaw" he whispered so close to my ear, his voice tingling my senses but i bit my lower lips to keep still. "and stop doing that to your lips, unless you want me to take you right here and now" he said, making a squeak fly out of my mouth causing every one to look at us.

believe me

“M..mum please” I begged, holding my mother tightly so she don't leave me alone, but it was futile, she already had her mind made up.

“you are just being a teenager, and this phase would pass, trust me” with the look in her eyes, it was very much obvious that even she did not believe a word of what she was saying.

“but.. but it is the fifth time this week” I said, tears streaming down my face as I spoke “and this is only Tuesday"

I was using everything in me to not break down.

I was letricia, the ugly duckling, quite literally and I knew that, I mean how could I not, when I was constantly bullied for my looks?, my mum knew it, but somehow, she always tried to convince me that I was the most beautiful girl in the city.

A lie as old as time, yet still difficult to believe.

“look Tricia” my mum called me by my pet name, a name she always went to whenever she wanted me to cave. “I don’t have time for this, I have to meet Allen tonight” she said, rubbing my head as she walked out the door.

I bit my bottom lips.

Allen, the same one that….

I took in a deep breath, trying not to break down, the betrayal washing over me as I watched her move around the house unbothered.

“you can’t be serious mum” I said, feeling my blood run cold as she spoke.

She turned to me. “look, I know you don’t like him, but we have to move on sweetie” she said, placing her hands on my head. “I have to move on” she said the second part, emphasizing on only herself.

“but I told you..” I, biting my lips as I watched her. “he came to the…”

“Letricia stop!!” she said, raising her voice at me, while you could see the frustration evident on her face. “I know you don’t like him, but going ahead to make up stories saying that he touched you inappropriately is going too far, and you know it!” she snapped. “he is a young, smart and intelligent man and you would love him, if you gave him a chance!!!”

I took a step back, the impact of her words felt like a blow to me. “now I don’t have all day, get your clothes on and get to school” she continued, either not caring or choosing not the acknowledge it, but streams of tears ran down my face either ways.

“I hate you” I said, swallowing a sob, while I took another step back. “I hate you and I wish that you were never my mum” I said, the tears now blurring my vision that I did not see the shock on her face.

“well I hate you too and I wish I did not have you as a daughter either!!! you think it is easy for me? God!! you are nothing but a burden!!!!” the world slowed down after that, making it impossible for me to hear what ever it was she was saying after that, i just wiped my eyes, looking her in the eyes.

“fine then, I would make it easy for you” I said, taking my school bag that hung on the chair and left. “I guess I can now give you the space you have always wanted, thanks for the last eighteen years” I said, wiping the tears that rolled down my cheeks

She looked at me, as though realizing that it was my birthday.

I snorted, it was not going to be the first time.

On my sixteenth birthday, she had forgotten that I even existed. When she found out an hour to midnight, she went out, bought the cheapest thing she could find and went 'I was saving it for this moment’ then went out to meet the person she was seeing at the time.

On my fourteenth birthday, she was stuck at work the whole day and only wished me the day after. It was dad that took a day off work to actually make me feel special.

“Letricia I was going to…”

“to do what mum? To wish me? Let me guess you actually planned a surprise but it did not work out?” I said, referring to my seventeenth birthday. “yeah…” I said, after I saw her shoulders fall, she had no excuse left to use “…I thought so”

I said, slamming the door shut as I made my way out of the kitchen and out of the house completely.

I took in a deep breath, looking at the clear sky, there was no where to go, and what was next?

Do I run away? Do I just come back home in the evening? I shook my head against the idea, he was going to be there, waiting, and I was not about to relieve the memories from last week.

I held my self tightly, walking to school against my better judgement.

“hey!” I closed my eyes, trying to tune out the voice, I already knew who it was, and stopping was only going to give him the opportunity to bully me more. “hey fatso!” he said, throwing one of his textbooks at me.

I took in a deep breath, trying to calm my nerves. "“hey are you ignoring me?” he said, coming impossibly closer to me, but again, I did not respond.

“hey I was talking to yo-” he said, shoving me agressively that I lost my footing, in that moment, I lost it.

I did not know what came over me, it might have been how the interaction with my mum was, or the frustration from his constant harassment, but I was tired. I faced him, screaming while I took swing after swing at him, till he laid on the floor, unmoving.

I heard my name from the background, causing me to freeze.

I felt my mouth unmoving, as well as my body as I sat on top of it. “oh my Goodness, she killed him” someone whispered in the background, making my whole world go blur..
