Chapter 1

Princess Violet Sinn

“You dare to rebel against me?” I cried out, standing close to my throne with a crown above my head. I had just recently been crowned queen regent and my sister had joined forces with my half brother who was exiled for his evil doings years ago.

“Oh my dear sister, don't be so surprised. You definitely saw this coming” Eliana laughed with glee as my half brother, Jeremiah began for me and I staggered backwards as pain hit my chest and I surged forward and spat out blood.

I tried to summon my ice magic but it proved useless as it flickered to life and then died down again, over and over again and the cruel laughter from the two of them reached my ears.

“We're not that stupid, we drugged your meals with odorless poison not even the healers could detect” Eliana said, eyes gleaning with barely contained joy at my suffering.

I was the strongest amongst us all and father had always made this clear to everyone but I never thought that my taking the throne would warrant such jealousy and hate and need to kill me.

“You poisoned me? How?” I had a maiden, she always checked my meals for poison and I had taken her as the sister I never could have ever since Eliana began to give me the cold shoulder.

It cannot be her… she couldn't be invo-.

“It's exactly who you're thinking about, she had helped us poison you just for a mere five thousand pieces of silver.” Eliana once again said and my heart broke within my chest. What? She had been the one to poison me just for an amount of money that I could give her if she asked.

“Of course, we threatened her with her child which is also your fiance’s child” my half brother sneered at me. it seemed I never was aware of anything happening around me.

My maiden had been having sexual intercourse with my fiance and they already were expecting a child?.

“Lucas?” My voice shook as my half brother approached me with intention and a murderous gaze, he held no emotion or pity or remorse for what he was doing and I could tell he believed that he was in the right.

“Of course it's Lucas. Kill her, brother and take the throne that should belong to you” Eliana scowled as my half brother, Jeremiah lunged at me and before I could react, the sword sank deep into my chest and I cried out with pain.

He twisted it as I grabbed the sword, trying to hold onto it but he forced it through my palms and into my chest like it meant nothing, his eyes gleaming with bloodlust and my eyes widened with chilling realization.

“You made a deal with a demon” I whispered as my breath began to leave me, the life draining out of me as my blood trickled down my dress.

His eyes met mine with shock and he staggered backwards, pulling out the sword with him as he did and I gasped.

Pain was not a feeling that was new to me, all this years I had been honed into a sharp blade meant for the throne. Pain had been my only constant companion.

They thought I wanted this responsibility? How delusional, I wanted to be free of all this. If I was born a commoner's daughter, that would have been better.

But no, I had entered this world wielding a dangerous ice magic. Unlike any ever seen before and capable of just anything I set my mind on.

Father had seen it once during our plays and instantly, his greed had come out to play and he had used me for countless missions as I grew.

I smiled as the notion that I ever wanted this met me with pure amusement, if ever I had another life, I would never want to be in this role. I would want to be free but first, I would want to get revenge for everything ever done to me.

“Father always chose you and just for a small mistake I made, he exiled me into the dark lands?” He screamed like a lunatic and I shook my head.

“Father wanted to give you the throne but you couldn't keep it in your pants long enough for that to happen and you raped five innocent virgins” I barked out as my sister walked to stand by his side and for a moment, I saw a flash of realization filled his eyes but it clouded over soon and I knew then and there that he was far from being saved.

I slammed down to the chair behind me and smiled, the throne I was supposed to rule from was the same one I died in before I even got to use it.

To hell with the responsibility, to hell with this blessing and luck they thought I had, to hell with the people of Ice City. I was finally free and not even death would take that from me.

But first, I had one last thing to complete.

I dragged on my magic and found some residue still left behind the biting poison and forced it out through the tips of my fingers and their eyes were instantly drawn to it.

“Oh don't be surprised” I turned her words back on them and their eyes widened with realization and anger.

“If I'm going to die, then so will you all” I whispered as the ice shot out straight up and slammed into the ceiling and I calmly whispered my dying words.

“Fire” the breath left my lungs and just before my memories and my life came to an end, I saw them turn to flee as fire engulfed the whole castle and I knew in my heart that even if I didn't kill them that day, their day of reckoning would come.

But I also knew that I finally did something for myself, I finally had the voice to speak up for myself.

Even when it proved too late.
