Remarry To A Mafia Billionaire, After Reborn
Chapter one
Cora POV
“Mrs. Martin, you’re two weeks pregnant,” the doctor announced, a warm, congratulating smile spreading across his face.
I stared at him, unable to utter a word, my mind reeling in shock. I didn’t want to believe it – I was pregnant? It seemed too good to be true. I had been married for three years and had never gotten pregnant before. The thought of finally having a child was almost too much to bear.
“Doctor, are you sure I’m pregnant?” I asked, my voice barely above a whisper, needing to confirm the news.
The doctor nodded his head, his smile growing wider. “Yes, Mrs. Martin, this is wonderful news!.”
I thought about my imperfect marriage, all the fights Aston and I had been having, and how he’s been treating me with hostility. But I strongly believe that the only reason we were having problems was because I hadn’t given him a child yet, and, honestly, no man would be happy with a barren wife.
But all his hostile attitude towards me are going to change, finally. I believe this news would surely bring us closer together.
“Thank you very much, doctor,” I said, my voice filled with gratitude as I didn’t try to hide my happiness, as I sprang up from the chair.
The doctor handed me the test results, and I quickly took them, my heart racing with excitement. I rushed out of his office, eager to share the news with Aston.
As soon as I left the hospital, I hailed a taxi and gave the driver my home address. When I arrived, the house was eerily silent and I immediately concluded that Aston wasn’t back from work yet.
I hurried to the kitchen to prepare his dinner, and an hour later, everything was ready. I checked the wall clock and counted down from five, expecting him to walk in at any moment. As per my expectation, he casually walked in at the count of four, and I forced a smile onto my face.
“Welcome!” I said, trying to sound cheerful.
Aston barely acknowledged me with a nod before heading to the room, likely to take a bath. A few minutes later, he came downstairs with an envelope and handed it to me.
“What’s this?” I asked, still smiling, though my heart was starting to sink as I read his expression.
Aston’s expression was cold. “What does it look like? That’s a divorce paper. Sign it before I come back from the club, and be out of my house by tomorrow morning.”
“Divorce paper?” I whispered, unable to process the words at the moment since my brain was suddenly blank. I felt like I’d been punched in the gut. “What! A divorce paper?” I exclaimed, finally trying to process what I was hearing. “Tell me you’re joking!”
Aston’s face was unyielding. “Do I look like I’m joking?”
I felt like my world was crashing down around me. I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. “Aston, what’s going on? Why am I suddenly signing a divorce paper?” I asked, trying to keep my voice steady.
Aston shrugged with a nonchalant expression. He looked me in the eyes as he spat out these words, “I don’t love you, Cora. I never have. I only married you because I needed a trophy wife, and you fit the bill.”
My brows furrowed in disbelief. A trophy wife? That’s all I was to him? I felt a stinging sensation in my eyes as tears began to form. “But what about our life together? Our home? Our…our child?” I stammered, remembering the pregnancy test results in my hand.
Aston snorted. “You’re not even pregnant, Cora. You can’t get pregnant and we both know that.”
“I can’t get pregnant? What do you mean by that?”
“You better do away with whatever you have in there” he gestured at my stomach. “And burn those useless papers, because you can’t fool me with a fake pregnancy result”
“What…”
“I’m done with you, Cora.” His voice firm as he said those words.
I felt like I’ve been punched in the gut. I couldn’t breathe. I couldn’t think.
I burst into tears, my body shaking with sobs. I grabbed Aston’s leg, desperate to hold on to him.
“You can’t do this to me, Aston! I’m carrying our child! Please don’t do this to me! You can’t divorce me now! You’re the only one I have!” I begged, my voice cracking with emotion.
Aston chuckled, his eyes cold and unfeeling. “I can’t be the only one you have, Cora. Stop acting pitiful because it won’t work. Sign the damn papers if you don’t want me to hurt you,” he sneered, his voice dripping with malice.
I held on to his leg tightly, refusing to let go. But Aston pushed me away with his foot, and I fell hard onto my butt. I scrambled to my feet, my face stinging with tears. “Aston, I am carrying our baby. Trust me!” I pleaded, hoping to appeal to whatever humanity was left in him.
But Aston’s response was brutal. He landed a slap on my face, the force of it sending me stumbling backward. I felt a searing pain and a wave of dizziness wash over me. I couldn’t believe the man I loved could be so cruel.
“I’m going to the club now,” Aston said, his voice cold and detached. “I want to see your signature on the paper when I get back. If you don’t sign it, you’ll have yourself to blame.” He turned and walked out of the house, leaving me shattered on the floor.
I sat there, unable to move or process what was happening. I stared blankly at the divorce papers in front of me, tears streaming down my face. I couldn’t believe the man I loved so much could do this to me.
I couldn’t sign those papers. I would be lost without him. Maybe he was just in a bad mood, I thought desperately. Maybe he didn’t mean it. I should go cook his favorite meal, that would make him happy.
I stood up, quickly wiping away my tears, and rushed to the kitchen. I cooked his favorite dish, my hands shaking with emotion. I waited for him to return, hoping he would apologize and take back his words.
But hours later, when the door burst open, Aston walked in with a woman on his arm. I felt a wave of anger and betrayal wash over me.
“Aston, what the hell is this?” I yelled, my voice shaking with rage.
Aston’s face turned red with anger. “How dare you question me? Who are you to question me?” he bellowed, taking a step closer to me. I flinched in fear, but tried to stand my ground.
“But Aston, this isn’t right,” I pleaded, trying to reason with him.
He scoffed. “Get out of my house right this moment!” he yelled, his voice echoing off the walls.
I shook my head, desperation creeping in. “No, I won’t leave. I’m not going to raise our child without you. You’re the only one I have,” I said, my voice cracking.
The woman with him raised her head, a smirk on her face. And that’s when I recognized her – my fake sister, Sloane.
“Sloane, what are you doing here?” I asked, my eyes narrowing.
Sloane scoffed. “What does it look like? Sign the damn paper and leave,” she said, before pecking Aston on the cheek.
My eyes grew wide with shock and anger. I took a step closer to her, my hands shaking. And then, I dragged her hair, pulling her towards me. “You’re behind all this, aren’t you?” I accused, my voice low and menacing.
