The Game of Money and Power
The room was cold and dark. Only a single computer screen lit up the space, and cast a pale glow across the tense face of Michael Cross. His fingers gripped the edge of the desk and his nails scraped against the wood as sweat gathered on his forehead. A faint murmur from the TV in the corner was the only sound he heard.
Michael’s chest rose and fell quickly as he kept looking at the screen before him. What he was seeing didn’t make sense.
On the news, a headline flashed across the bottom of the broadcast:
“Global Market Crash Linked to the Secrets of The Aurum Order – Investigations Ongoing.”
The world outside was spiraling out of control, and Michael could feel the weight of it pressing down on him. His fingers hovered above the keyboard, but he couldn’t move. The words on the screen felt like a nightmare he couldn’t wake from.
Then, a name appeared that made his blood run cold. Leonard Hunter.
Leonard had been more than a mentor. He was the man who’d stepped in after Michael’s father died. He's been a teacher, a guide, someone he trusted completely. And now his name was plastered across global news, accused of being the mastermind behind a financial disaster shaking the entire world.
Michael’s heart pounded harder. The man who had once taught him about loyalty, success, and integrity was now being accused of being at the center of a global conspiracy.
He couldn't believe it, or rather, didn't want to. But before he could gather his thoughts, his phone buzzed.
One new message.
He didn’t need to check the sender. It was from Thomas Knox.
“I’m sorry for everything. You know I tried to fix things. I really tried.”
Michael stared at the text, frozen. Thomas, his closest friend, what was he talking about?
His phone buzzed again.
This time, it was a video.
The video was shaky, but the face was unmistakable. Thomas looked pale and tired, fear etched into every line of his expression. The confident smile Michael knew so well was gone.
“Michael,” Thomas said as his voice kept cracking. “I never wanted any of this. But they’ve got me now. I’m sorry, man… It’s too late. The Aurum Order won’t stop. Don’t trust anyone… and especially not Leonard. He knew what was coming, and I’m paying the price.”
The screen flickered, and the video ended abruptly, replaced by static.
Michael’s stomach twisted. He stared at the black screen with his shallow breath.
“Could Thomas really be gone?” he whispered to himself. There was only one reason he’d receive a message like that. The truth hit him hard, Thomas was dead.
A cold chill ran down Michael’s spine.
The Aurum Order.
The name echoed in his mind, over and over..
Leonard's Arrest. Thomas’s death. The Aurum Order.
It was all connected.
But how?
Michael swallowed hard, blinking rapidly as he tried to make sense of everything that had happened in the past few months.
Leonard Hunter, his mentor, his father’s old friend, had always spoken about wealth and how money flows like water. He taught Michael about creating value, building influence, and shaping empires.
Michael had believed in him completely. Leonard was supposed to be a man of vision, someone who understood the world in ways others couldn’t.
But now… that trust was falling apart before his eyes.
He also told Michael of a group of cabals that would try to stop him if he attempted to become anything close to great but wasn't specific. “Could they be the ones doing these?” Michael asked himself a series of questions but got no answer for any.
A new headline suddenly flashed across the screen, pulling him back to reality. The news anchor’s serious voice filled the room.
“Breaking News: Investigations into Leonard Hunter, a key figure in the financial crash, reveal connections to a secret group known as The Aurum Order.
Sources claim this organization has been manipulating the global economy, controlling the flow of money from the poor to the rich.
The world’s wealthiest elites are now under investigation.
Reporting live, I’m Eliza Daniels.”
Michael’s hands trembled as he clicked through the news links, barely noticing how fast time was passing.
The Aurum Order.
He had heard about them before, a mysterious group said to control governments, markets, and entire nations.
It used to sound like a conspiracy theory.
But now, it was real. And it was everywhere.
Suddenly, his phone buzzed again. Michael froze.
This time, it wasn’t a text. It was an image, an old newspaper showing Leonard Hunter in handcuffs, being led by police officers into a van.
The headline read:
“Local Businessman Arrested for Fraud and Theft – The Past of Leonard Hunter Exposed.”
Michael’s breath seized. The man in the photo didn’t look like the Leonard he knew, not the polished, charming man who talked about honesty and success.
This Leonard looked broken… guilty.
Before he could think further, his phone buzzed again. Another message, this time from Thomas.
There was no video, just text.
“They’re watching you, Michael. Everything you do. Every move you make. It’s already too late for me. I can’t stop them anymore, but you still have a chance.
Please… don’t let them win.”
Michael’s chest tightened. His world was collapsing fast.
Thomas, his best friend, was gone. Leonard, his mentor, wasn’t who he thought he was. And now, some powerful secret organization was watching him.
Then, the lights flickered… and went out.
Suddenly, a message appeared on his computer screen in glowing text:
“Don’t let them get to you. I've fought them before and you can do more than I did. I trained you for that.”
Michael froze. His palms were cold and slick with sweat.
The message looked like it came from Leonard.
He quickly grabbed his phone and tried to call him, but there was no signal. No network.
The room suddenly felt smaller.
He was being hunted.
But Michael wasn’t the kind of man to sit and wait for the end.
He clenched his fists.
“A world full of secrets, lies, and greed,” he muttered. “I won’t just chase money anymore. I’ll become the force that breaks this system.”
Michael Cross would not be another pawn in their game.
He would uncover the truth, starting with Leonard Hunter.
The game had begun.
