WHEN REVENGE MEETS DESIRE
Her life was going to change. In fact, it was already on the course of change, just like she was on the flight to Mexico city— a city she had only heard thrilling tales about— for an important interview. She needed to secure this job by all means.
It is a must. She thought as she took out the photo of a lady and placed it on her chest.
“I won't fail you.“
Ladies and gentlemen, please ensure your seatbelts are properly fastened and all electronic devices are in airplane mode as we prepare to disembark.
Welcome to Mexico city.
Upon disembarkation, she walked away briskly to collect her luggage.
“Brian Sean.“ She greeted an old friend rather coldly with a handshake.
“You look sweet but rather… bookish. Did you change your style? You were never into glasses.“ he grinned.
She rolled her eyes and demanded, “The documents.“
“Fierce kitten.“ He remarked teasingly and handed her a file.
She spat an F word over her shoulder at him, her eyes shining with contempt. But he just stood there, watching her slender figure disappear with her luggage into the distance.
She was minutes late for the job interview and so she did a half run all the way to the elevator then ran into two young women coming out of a room.
“Are you an interviewee too?“ She asked, looking flustered.
“Oh, you are? What a shame, you're disqualified already.“ One of them snickered as she eyed her from head to toe.
“Oh, she looks like she just crawled out of a gutter.“ The other added with scorn and they laughed.
Fuck
She sighed as she looked down. Her heels had gotten dusty from her rush. And she didn't look as tidy as she had wanted to. Plus her tardiness, she was almost certain to get rejected.
Fed up with their mockery and very anxious to meet the interviewer, she walked past them to the door.
“Go in. Desperate bitch.“ they ridiculed but she smiled unwilling to retort.
The door opened abruptly and everyone went silent. Two more ladies stepped out, looking more elegant and refined than the other two. They didn't even look at her but thanked the man at the door and moved out to join the rest.
Her heart dropped. Maybe, just maybe I'm overthinking this.
“You are?“ The man asked.
“I am one of the interviewees.“ She really hoped to make an impression.
“Are you sure about that?“ he asked, glancing at her shoes again.
She felt embarrassed and looked sideways.
“Come in, anyways.“
“Listen, young woman,” he began after taking his seat.
“The position of Personal Assistant to the CEO is a rather delicate post and you seem to qualify way lesser than the others.“
“Can I speak to him, please?“ She requested, sounding a little more desperate than she had wanted. He gave her a weird look.
“I'm sorry, I didn't mean that.“ She chuckled nervously, chiding herself within.
“You may leave.“ He ordered coldly.
* * * *
For two hours, the five interviewees sat patiently, awaiting the CEO's arrival. At some point they chattered among themselves while the ridiculed latecomer typed away on her laptop.
“Don't you think it is a gross insult to work in an interview?“ Her initial hater, Madelyn taunted.
“Why do you care? She's disqualified already.“ Another chuckled in a lady-like manner.
The ridicule was getting too much, and so closing her laptop, she rose gracefully and walked up to them, tired of their constant jabbing.
She had to return it ten fold.
“You're all losers. Madelyn, Cline, Wendy, and Leona.“ She called slowly looking at their surprised faces.
“Madelyn,” she continued,
“Your lover has been fucking your sister for years before you knew about it. She's hotter than you, don't you think?“
Madelyn's face darkened and she stood up abruptly,”You daughter of a bitch! You say that one more time and I rip your heart out!“
“No, you won't, Maddie. Cline, don't you think so?“ she asked with a strange smile.
“We haven't met except now. So I'm wondering who gave you the guts to speak to me.“ Cline replied coldly.
“Yeah, we were fated to meet, otherwise your daughter… I pity the poor girl to have had a mother like you.“ She snorted.
“How dare you mention her?“ Cline was upset.
“She is barely holding on, isn't she?“ she shrugged.
“How do you know that?!“ Cline could hardly suppress her shock.
“Wait, I need to speak to her.“ Dropping the façade of high class she wore all along, she became a mother desperate to hear from her sick daughter. Without another word, she hurried away to handle her issue.
“Stay away from me.“ Wendy warned, looking cautiously at her after Cline left.
However, she approached non-chalantly with an evil smile, like a predator gunning for its prey.
“Don't say anything! Security!!“ Wendy called, afraid that her hidden secret may be revealed by the unassuming-girl-turned-bitch.
“I'll like to savour the skeleton in your cupboard, seeing as you're this afraid.“ She cackled.
“If this is your method of winning, you've failed.“ Madelyn scorned, hate blazing form her eyes.
“Oh, Maddie. Rob fucks Wendy too. Surely you can understand why.“ She said with a look of pity. Wendy looked shocked. The air became tense.
“What in heaven are you talking about?“ Wendy demanded.
“Rob is your boyfriend, is he not? Well, he seems to have a poor taste for women. I mean, look at you two.“ She snickered.
“I knew it.“ Madelyn clenched her fist.
“I knew it wasn't just her he was sleeping with. Are you that bitch that called on Sunday??“ Madelyn bellowed and snatched Wendy's handbag in her fury. The two women stood at a face-off.
“I miss these kinds of drama, Leona.“ She said, taking a seat close to Leona. The duo watched as some security men arrived and escorted the warring fools away.
“You have just eliminated three of us.“ It suddenly dawned on Leona what this young woman was up to.
“No. Wendy called the security on herself. But I won't target you, I promise.“ She patted Leona's shoulder for assurance.
“That's because you know my family is influential.“ Leona rebuked haughtily and slapped her hand away.
“I'll give you a chance to leave. Here, take this.“ Leona presented her a gold card.
“Put away that trash card. Save it for your lavish expenses because this job is mine.“ She declared so convincingly Leona became uncomfortable.
“CEO Slade knows my parents so I will get this job. It's what aristocratic families do. They maintain ties. Who are you by the way?“
A staff hurried past them, speaking into the phone, “The CEO has arrived, send a team downstairs!“
The two women glanced at each other and stood up simultaneously, their hearts racing. Who will get this job?
