Shattered Nights

I was just about to step into the lobby of Brightstone Group when i remembered—oh no, I didn’t have the document I needed for the morning meeting with me.My stomach dropped so fast I thought I would faint. Without that folder, I was finished.

While panicking I ran back outside and quickly ordered a taxi. When on finally stopped in front of me, i jumped in and slammed the door.

“Please, faster,” I told the driver, my hands shaking as I held unto my bag.

The traffic in Hamilton was insane, cars blaring from every direction, and I couldn’t sit still. My heart pounded as I checked the time over and over. If I was late, my boss was going to kill me.

Sir, please, can’t you move quicker?” I begged, leaning forward in my seat.

The driver just sigh and muttered something about the traffic being “out of his control,” but I didn’t care. My mind was already at my apartment, picturing the folder exactly where I’d left it.

When we finally pulled up. I rushed out of the cab without even waiting for my change.

I reached my apartment door and went still it wasn’t locked.

That was strange. James had left the house earlier that morning, dressed for work. He never came back during the day, and I was sure I had locked the door before I left. For a second, I told myself maybe I was just rushing too much and forgot.

I stepped inside and went straight to the living room. The folder wasn’t on the table. My heart dropped. I started searching everywhere—under the couch, on the kitchen counter, even near the window. I was bending down when I heard a sound.

A voice

It wasn’t just any voice. It was a woman’s voice.sweet, soft…and she was saying, “Oh baby harder”.

I froze. My heart beating so loud I thought it would break my chest. Slowly, I followed the sound down the hallway. With shaking hands, I pushed the bedroom door open.

“What the fuck?” The words came out of my mouth before I could stop them.

They both froze. James turned his head quickly, his eyes wide for a second before they narrowed. The woman beside him pulled the sheet up over her chest, her lips curved in a small smirk that made my stomach twist.

“Are you serious right now?” I asked, my voice shaking, anger mixing with disbelief. “James, what the hell is this?”

He sat up, running a hand through his messy hair like he was just waking from a nap. “What does it look like?” he said coldly. “I’m done, alright? You’ve never given me what I wanted. I needed more than… waiting forever.”

My mouth went dry. “So you bring her into our bed?” I snapped, my chest burning with rage. “You couldn’t even respect me enough to leave first?”

The woman laughed softly and leaned against him like she was proud to be there. I wanted to slap that smile right off her face.

James didn’t even look guilty. He just shrugged. “I told you, I can’t keep doing this. You wouldn’t let me touch you, and I’m a man. I have needs.”

The words huts me deeply. My hands trembled as I grabbed the folder off the dresser, the one stupid reason I had rushed back here. My whole body felt numb, but my voice came out steady.

“You’re pathetic, James,” I said, forcing myself not to cry in front of them. “We’re done. For good.”

And before either of them could reply, I turned and walked out. My legs felt heavy, my chest tight, but I didn’t stop until I was outside again, breathing hot air like it might keep me alive.

I had no idea where I was going or what I was about to do. All I knew was that my life with James was over. And that night, broken and furious, I was about to meet someone who would change everything.
