Return Of The Ex-Wife
( Claire )
Motherhood
A word which can’t be described because no explanation can justify the feelings that a woman feels when she holds the life in her arms whom she carries in her womb for months and brings it into this world with great pain.
I was feeling the same rush of emotions inside me when I was swaddling my baby boy.
He was a replica of his father, my husband Dustin. The man whom I love madly and our baby was the symbol of our togetherness for nearly two years. He was the most loving and caring husband that a woman always dreams.
“Hey, baby, let’s call your Daddy and find out when will he return home.” I talked to my son in a baby voice.
He had turned six months old today and Dustin wanted to surprise us.
I couldn’t hold my excitement. He did everything to make us feel special.
I dialled Dustin’s number but it was directed to voicemail which was unusual because he never missed my calls.
The hours rolled by and my wait was finally over when Dustin walked into the house but he wasn’t alone.
The woman I despised the most was with him.
“Dustin, why your phone was unavailable? I had been calling you since the noon.” I masked my insecurity and greeted my husband with a smile but when I was about to hug him, he put his hand between us.
“Claire, pack your stuffs and leave my house in an hour.” He said in an icy cold tone.
I blinked my eyes to believe what I just heard.
“Dustin, what kind of joke is this?” I tried to laugh but when I saw his glare, it made my heart sink.
“Claire, you must leave my house within an hour if you don’t want me to drag you out of here. We’re no longer related to each other.” He said, his words laced in harshness.
I felt like someone hit me with a rock. The sly woman was smiling at me.
“Let me make it crystal clear for her, darling.” She said in an overly sweet voice while rubbing his back which infuriated me and I launched towards her but Dustin slapped me across my right cheek.
I stumbled and fresh tears rolled down from my eyes. I couldn’t believe he actually raised his hand on me for a woman like Grace Cullen.
“Do not dare to come near my wife or you’ll see the worst side of me.” He glared me hard with so much hatred.
It was clear, he played a cruel joke on me but I’d not give up until he tells me what was going between them.
I still hoped Dustin was influenced by that witch. He loved me dearly. He had been a dotting husband and a father.
“Dustin, this wh*re has blackmailed you, right? Don’t worry, we can fight this together. I swear on our son, I will make her life a living hell.” I said wiping my tears.
“He is not your son. He is mine and Grace’ son. So, do not try to drag him in this dirty shit.” He sneered at me and this made my blood boil.
“Enough! I have been listening to your crap but it doesn’t mean I’d sit quiet if you try to play dirty using our son. I won’t allow it.” I raised my voice at him.
For a moment, he was taken aback by my fierce counter back.
“He isn’t your son, Claire. You were just a carrier for our baby. We only needed you to give birth to him and feed him for six months and today marks the end of your contract with us.” Grace spoke.
I staggered back.
Whatever she said, it didn’t mean any sense to me. I carried our son for nine months and gave birth to him.
“Stop lying.” I said in a low, warning tone.
“I am not. You carried our baby because I am unable to give birth. We needed a healthy womb and you were just the perfect woman whom his family imposed upon him. So, we took the chance. How could you be so naïve? You went for IVF rounds yet you couldn’t see it. I was there in every round.” Grace laughed.
It was cruel, mocking and each word floated down my ears like molten lava.
I stumbled back. It was the cruellest joke that was played with me.
“You signed the marriage contract without reading, Claire. Our marriage came to an end as soon as you gave birth to Davian. I married Grace the very next day. Stop wasting your time. I advise you to pack your stuff and leave my house, Claire Vance.” Dustin said flatly.
I was totally numb to react because it still felt like a nightmare to me.
“I will take my son with me because I don’t believe fucking liars like you!” I yelled at him and about to run to Davian’s nursery when Grace blocked my way.
“Where do you think you are going? He is my son. Do you want a DNA report as a proof.” She said, her eyes glared at me.
“She won’t listen to us, Grace. Let me show her real place. She’s the daughter of a greedy leech who took money from me in the exchange of the marriage. I endured this marriage for the sake of our baby.” He spatted venom from his mouth for me.
I was crying silently.
All these times, I failed to see the monster behind the mask and allowed him to use me as a vessel.
The baby I carried and gave birth wasn’t mine. I loved him more than anything in this world but I lost all the rights on my son.
Grace grabbed my wrist and started dragging me out of the house.
I was motionless to put up a fight. Clearly, I had lost. I couldn’t blame anyone else. I brought it upon myself.
“Please, for once let me see my child.” I begged her in a hope that I’d see Davian and run away with him.
“Good bye, Claire Vance. Never show us your face again.”
