Redemption's Regret
I jumped into this novel before the story even began.
My favorite character - the second male lead - was about to lose both his legs. So I made a quick decision to save him, taking all the hate that was meant for him.
We ended up living out our own sweet love story. He never met the female lead who would've made his life miserable.
I thought we could live happily ever after, just enjoying our simple life together.
But when I was eight months pregnant, the female lead crashed into me while driving drunk.
Everyone knew Chase Chen was a miracle worker in surgery. They called him to operate on me.
But when he heard the female lead was unconscious, he rushed straight to the OR next door instead.
He even helped cover up her drunk driving by faking her medical records.
That's when it hit me: some people just don't deserve to be saved.
When I came to, I was already lying in the operating room.
Blood was gushing everywhere. The pain was so bad I was white as a sheet and everything was spinning.
"Summer, Summer, can you hear me?" A familiar doctor was doing CPR while calling my name.
I managed to open my eyes and realized these were doctors from Chase Chen's hospital.
Seeing I wasn't fully conscious, they frantically tried calling Chase Chen.
Everyone knew Chase Chen was a surgical genius, and it was no secret I was his wife. They called him hoping he'd save me.
He showed up that night because of the accident.
As time ticked by, the lead doctor couldn't help asking: "Where's Dr. Chen? His wife is in critical condition - what's taking him so long?"
People always said Chase Chen loved me more than life itself. No one could believe he'd be late, and technically, he wasn't.
"Dr. Chen is here, but he ran into the unconscious driver who caused the accident and followed them into the next OR," they explained. He said it was a matter of life and death, and someone else could handle my case.
Everyone was stunned silent, unable to understand his choice.
But I knew who was lying next door: Claire Lin, the female lead - the person Chase Chen valued more than his own life in the original story.
